As you might guess, we’re pretty big fans of mirrors and reflective surfaces here at Calgary’s House of Mirrors. As it turns out, though, we aren’t alone – professional interior designers, architects, and others have been coming to us for years with all kinds of interesting ideas, concepts, and new uses for mirrors in Calgary homes.
So, we thought we would share a few of them with you, in case you might be thinking about redecorating some of your space, or just want some new ideas to work with. Here are five of our favorite uses for mirrors to decorate your home:
To make a space seem bigger. This is an old trick, but one that works extraordinarily well. If you have a small room that you would like to make feel a bit more spacious, try adding a mirror (preferably a larger one). The effect will make the space in question feel larger and more open.
To add emphasis. One place you’ll find a lot of mirrors in Calgary homes is next to a fireplace, or other central feature. There’s just something about reflective surfaces that draw in the human eye, and so a well-placed mirror can add even more emphasis to one of your home’s more outstanding features.
For utility in a bedroom. While it might not be a groundbreaking concept, having a full-length mirror in your bedroom is a great way to make it more usable, reduce the time you need to get ready in the morning, and make your bedroom seem bigger all at the same time.
To match frames to new styles and furniture. Often, Calgary homeowners reach a certain point where they want a distinctive look in their rooms. A mirror with a custom frame can be the perfect accent to almost any color or style, and with the added benefit of remaining neutral, rather than clashing with other elements.
For good luck. In some cultures, mirrors are thought to bring fortune and wealth. Who couldn’t use all the good luck they can get on their side?
